Love is not Selfish Round 4

  • Comments 4

Love is not selfish because it seeks to fulfill other needs at its own expense. The truth about giving in a relationship is that you can’t give like that without a true understanding of God’s love for us.

John 3:16……“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Giving of one’s self so completely that you disappear and the love of God is seen in action. That action is called sacrifice. Some may put it “giving till it hurts” but if you are loving as Christ loves and giving as he gives it is a tangible joy, never a pain.

Ephesians 5:25,26……”Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word”

This love is exampled to us, then we are told…no commanded to walk in that sacrifice before God, being doers of the word. So man, rise up and take hold of the command and walk in the truth that you profess, I know that some of us don’t have much of a choice but to live in Christ’s integrity and wait on the Lord, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t prepare our hearts for the future.

I know I spoke only to the men in this and I think I will let one of the ladies fill in the blank in they so please, I feel inadequate to broch the subject, and with the added controversy between denominations and culture I think it would be better.

  • You spoke the word of truth. Us women on here need to do the same, prepare our hearts and ourselves for the reconciliation of our marriage. We need to let the word endow us and make us over by his grace.

  • 1 Peter 3 King James Version (KJV)

    3 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

    2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

    3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

    4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

    5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

    6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

  • Thanks Tessy, just what needed to be said.

  • This is a great post Josh.
