Patience Round 4

  • Comments 1

Some notes from a study I am doing on 1Cor. 13.

Patience, Love is Patient - Strongs number G5281 is the most used word for patience, it denotes steadfastness, constancy. Endurance/patience in the NT is the characteristic of a man who is not swerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and piety by even the greatest trials and sufferings.

God's patience is shown through the OT in great detail in the long suffering he shows in his bride going after other gods, and ultimately in his waiting patiently for the right time to bring the end and start in eternity as the bride of Christ.

The book of Hosea is especially clear in the way God loves with patience, in his view of unconditional love. We see God telling the prophet Hosea to take a prostitute as a wife. God isn't showing us how to love a wayward wife/husband, he was showing Hosea a taste of the pain that He feels when His people stray from Him, so that Hosea would understand the urgency and desire that God has for an unbroken relationship with His people. The patience is shown in that even in warning them of coming judgment he is calling them back to His side and that if they repent he would stay judgment, waiting for the appointed time to bring them home to him. The love is shown in His undeserved attention and pleading for the return of his wayward bride and his unhindered focus on her alone.

Praying for all of you.

  • Thanks for the prayers. Prayers for this community too.  I have been reading the Old Testament and not through to much of it yet, but .  there sure are a lot of examples of God's patience with us.

With our flesh continuing in sin, its a good thing He is so patient.  It's a good reminder to be patient with our spouses when we feel it's enough of their foolishness.
