Day 35—Love is Accountable
Find a marriage mentor - someone who is a strong Christian and who will be honest and loving with you. If you feel that counseling is needed, then take the first step to set up an appointment. During this process, ask God to direct your decisions and discernment.
End of December I took personal time to go to the ocean to “figure things out.” I spent A LOT of time praying and listening to God. It was in that moment I knew I was to LEAD my heart. I was to FIGHT for this marriage till the end whether it be sooner or till death do us part. Little did I know at that time what that journey would entail. When I got home stepping stones towards “accountability” were put in place for myself—counseling with a Christian counselor, meetings with the pastor who wed us and his wife, Bible Study, and Daily Devotions.
I could not be more thankful for God guiding me in ALL of this. Even before I started the Love Dare journey, He was working! He is ALWAYS working and it is AMAZING to have your eyes opened to it. I look back and I am speechless.
What resonated in the chapter was, “You must guard yourself against the wrong influencers. Everyone has an opinion and some people will encourage you to act selfishly and leave your mate in order to pursue your own happiness. Be careful about listening to advice from others.”
Even though this dare was completed before I began The Love Dare journey by starting counseling (thank God for that connection!) I have had to continue to ask God to direct my decisions and discernment. Honestly, I feel like this is the first time in my life I have truly stood for what I believed in and not cared what other people think. I know what is TRUE and I stand by it every day. It is the hardest path I’ve ever had to follow, but know God is directing me.
I have seen the destruction wrong influencers can have—I just look at my husband’s influencers. I am being told to fight from the get go, he is being told to follow his heart and pursue his own happiness. He is surrounded by divorced friends/coworkers/family. I am not giving up though. God can still work in him.
Listening to people of this world and of the flesh have their own corrupted ways. Just for an example... Christmas, St. Patrick day, and so many other holidays.
Christmas, the world corrupted this day and turned it into a commercial free for all. St. Patricks day turned into a day of drinking and partying. But this was a person who was wealthy, was kidnapped put into slavery, got away and because God led him to go back and be a testimony he turned that entire country to have the opportunity to know Christ. It is an amazing story and a tesitmony. But yet this world corrupted the entire thing.
The world cannot understand your journey. They seek something in their lives they just do not know where or how. That is where our testimonies come into play.
