Day 126: Love is not irritable

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.—Proverbs 16:32

Choose today to react to tough circumstances in your marriage in loving ways instead of with irritation. Begin by making a list below of areas where you need to add margin to your schedule. Then list any wrong motivations that you need to release from your life.

--Wow, I am amazed how God has layout some of these love dares to align with trials in my journey.  Today, was a relatively minor “tough circumstance”, but I believe He reminded me to react with kindness and without irritation.

In my response email to MB yesterday, I offered MB to switch with me since she has not seen Lincoln play soccer this season yet (MB take Lincoln to his soccer game and I can take Bella to her horse lesson).

MB responded today to the Lincoln/soccer option (from Day 125) via text:

“Hi Adrian. Yes, I would like to take Lincoln to soccer. This has been on my mind so I am glad we can work this out. How about we meet at Costco and you can take Bella from me and take her to her first lesson, and I will take Lincoln to soccer? After his game, he and I will return to the barn.

Also, last week Bella wore a new uniform, a pair of pants and shirt, that I bought her, but since they had dress down day at school on Monday, she didn’t wear them back to me. Can you please send them back tomorrow in her backpack? Also, Lincoln wore a new outfit as well. He should remember which one it was. If you could send that back I’d appreciate it. Thank you.”

Admittedly, I was a little “irritated” that she is always requesting clothes to go in her direction and she never sends clothes in my direction.  So, I felt she needed to send clothes my way too (I am running out of clothes for the kids). I responded with the following text:

“Hi Mary Bell! Okay sounds great, Lincoln will like that! No problem regarding the clothes, will do; if you can please do the same too, the clothes that Bella wore to you on her dress-down day, if you can please send those clothes back, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, hope you are having a nice day!”

Not that I expected her to, she did not respond.  Nor did she seemed too “happy” when I was at the school to pick up the kids.  I tried to small talk with MB (asked how her day was and if her class was still on their sugar high from last night), but I sensed she was not interested.

Hopefully, my response was reasonable and meets the love dare today.  But more importantly, hopefully, she is seeing that my kindness is not coming from me, but from Him.

  • Keep it up! God does prepare us for each situation by his grace, and it is up to us to stand in obedience and complete the dare even if it hurts to do. Elizabeth Elliot said "a Christian in a struggle with somthing they know they must do is only delaying obedience" keep standing.
