Day 104: Love vs. Lust

The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.—1 John 2:17

End it now. Identify every object of lust in your life and remove it. Single out every lie you’ve swallowed in pursuing forbidden pleasure and reject it. Lust cannot be allowed to live in a back bedroom. It must be killed and destroyed—today—and replaced with the sure promises of God and a heart filled with His perfect love.

-- Similar to the previous dare, this dare is another reminder I cannot relax because the enemy is constantly prowling to steal, kill, and destroy when we are at our weakest, most vulnerable, or wanting attention. In this dare, lust is defined as the opposite of love…setting your heart and passions on something that takes you away from God’s goodness. “For a believer it’s the first step out of fellowship with the Lord and with others. That’s because very object of your lust—whether it’s a young coworker or a film actress, or coveting a half-million dollar house, a sports car, or the ‘greener grass’—represents the beginnings of a lie. This person or thing that seems to promise sheer satisfaction is more like a bottomless pit of unmet longings. Lust will make you dissatisfied with your spouse. It breeds anger, numbs hearts, and destroys marriages. Rather than fullness, it leads to emptiness.” I give God 100% praise and glory for giving the strength, wisdom, & awareness in this area and from the many friends and family to help keep me accountable. Rather than lust, I choose to be filled with the sure promises of God along with His perfect love. I don’t want to let You down Father God.

  • Sometimes lust steals time away from us, our family, our spouse, and our responsibilities.  If we use to spend a lot of time or energy looking at big homes, sports cars, or the opposite sex and we give that up, it can additional margin for God and family and responsibilities.

It is so easy for evil to keep attracting us  back to what once kept our attention in the wrong areas.  We need to keep in His strength.
