Day 68: Love makes sacrifices

He laid down His life for us. We should also lay down our lives for our brothers.

—1 John 3:16 HCSB

What is one of the greatest needs in your spouse’s life right now? Is there a need you could lift from their shoulders today by a daring act of sacrifice on your part? Whether the need is big or small, purpose to do what you can to meet the need.

--Today’s dare was all about sacrifice—love makes sacrifices. “Love shows compassion rather than becoming defensive. Love inspires you to say ‘no’ to what you want, in order to say ‘yes’ to what your spouse needs.”

I believe the greatest need in my wife’s life right now is guidance from the Holy Spirit.  A need that can only be met by God.  However, I believe that the way that I act and the decisions that I make during this time could be used by God to impact my wife.

I prayed about how I might be able to accomplish this dare according to God’s will.   I am not sure what to sacrifice for MB.

I don’t think I can make any more financial sacrifices especially with the uncertain financial future.  I am a very careful with spending, so looking at cost to cut is what I have to do to better adapt to the added cost of the separation.  I will be eliminating the “TV cable bill” and cutting utility usage, especially with just me in the house to be able to have more for MB and the kids.  I know these are small items but will require some sort of sacrifice.

As a purpose and attempt to meet her needs, I called MB to follow-up to our discussion yesterday, and see if there is anything she needed from me regarding what we talked about (Bella’s horseback riding).  She reminded me the love and passion that Bella has with Horseback riding but she understood if I can’t afford, I can’t afford it.  She also wants Bella to attend a Space Camp that cost $500.  I had to remind MB that because of our uncertain financial future, I don’t know how I can commit to these cost. I told I will think about it…

I am seeking God for guidance.  I will just continue to keep my hope in God and leave MB to God.

I don’t want to fuel anger, but every time I see her, her car is fleshly washed, tires shining; her nails are always done nice (fake nails), hair dyed, starbucks in hand; I don’t think she is struggling.

  • Many times people put on appearances that they aren't struggling, financially, mentally, and spiritually.  She could be struggling with all the above.  It's crazy how some that are struggling financially will end up spending more on nonessentials than they did before they began struggling.  and those struggling mentally or spiritually will purposely laugh more, talk to strangers more, etc,

  • Maybe she's  trying to also buy Bella's happiness with these extras.
