    Day 30—Love Brings Unity

“Isolate one area of division in your marriage, and look on today as a fresh opportunity to pray about it. Ask the Lord to reveal anything in your own heart that is threatening oneness with your spouse. Pray that he would do the same for them. And if appropriate, discuss this matter openly, seeking God for unity.”

The biggest area of division in our marriage is selfishness, which caused all the other negative areas to unfold resulting in a deep hurt on both of our accounts. I still have moments of battling selfish thoughts and feelings, but am now quick to prayer whereas before I would relish in them. Seeking God for unity has led me to a selfless place in my marriage spilling into other areas of my life. Every day I strive to react selflessly. This is not always easy and is obviously dismissed by my husband to the point where it makes him react even more selfishly.

The chapter questions the ‘what ifs’ of a husband and wife. Those noted for the wife—

What would happen if you made it your mission to do everything possible to promote togetherness of heart with your husband? What if every threat to your unity was treated as a poison, a cancer, an enemy to be eliminated by love, humility, and selflessness? What would your marriage become if you were never again willing to see your oneness torn apart?

I can only imagine the strength and unity such actions could catapult a marriage to, especially when I can see the effects it does on an individual.

  • Oneness comes from so many areas. Things simple as a bank account. If there is separation in your life (for example separate back accounts and bills) there is no oneness. Remember whatever effects you, effects him etc....
